Taijul Islam Becomes Fastest Bangladeshi Bowler To 200 Test Wickets With A Fifer vs SA In Mirpur

In the ongoing first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at Mirpur, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has scripted history as he became the fastest Bangladeshi bowler to take 200 Test wickets. 

In the ongoing match, Bangladesh, batting first, had a disastrous run and tumbled for just 106 runs. Kagiso Rabada became the fastest bowler to 300 Test wickets and helped his side dominate the hosts.

Taijul's Spell Cripples South Africa

In reply, at the time of writing this article, South Africa had taken a 30-run lead but also lost six wickets. Taijul Islam was the pick of the bowler as he took a five-wicket haul. It was Islam's 13th fifer in Test cricket.

Islam registered the figures of 5/48, which included the scalps of Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Matthew Breetzke, and David Bedingham.

Taijul Becomes The Fastest To 200 Test Wickets For Bangladesh

It is worth noting that with the five-wicket haul, Taijul became the second Bangladeshi bowler after Shakib Al Hasan to complete 200 Test wickets. Islam has taken just 85 innings to reach the milestone. He broke Shakib's record with that feat. 

Islam now eyes Shakib's record for most Test wickets for Bangladesh. Here is the complete list.

Taijul is also eyeing another personal milestone on day 2 as he is just two wickets away from equalling Shakib Al Hasan's record for most Test wickets at home for Bangladesh. It is worth noting that Hasan could not feature in this series because of security threats.
