The preparations for IPL 2025 are in full swing. The franchises are busy finalising their retention list for the upcoming season as the mega-auction is around the corner and will take place in the last week of November 2024.
Talking about Chennai Super Kings, they are still contemplating over MS Dhoni, who has maintained suspense over his participation in IPL 2025. In the latest events, CSK CEO broke his silence on Chennai's plans regarding Dhoni and stated that the franchise want thala to play for another year for the Men in Yellow.
MS Dhoni Yet To Take A Call On His Future
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, speaking at an event, confirmed that the 43-year-old is in Chennai's plans, but the player himself is yet to take a call on his future. He added that they spoke to Dhoni, and the former CSK skipper remarked that he will take a call before October 31, which is the last date to submit retention list.
“We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team, But Dhoni has not confirmed it to us yet, Dhoni said, 'I will tell you before October 31.' We hope that he will play,” said Kasi Viswanathan, revealing that it is a waiting game for the Chennai franchise.
CSK Might Retain Dhoni As Uncapped Player
It is worth noting that before the IPL 2025 auction, BCCI amended the retention policy and introduced a rule allowing a player who has not played an international game for five years to be retained as an uncapped star for four crores.
MS Dhoni and CSK are benefitting from this rule, which is why there are chances that Dhoni might play another season, potentially his last for the Super Kings.
Notably, Dhoni was rumoured to play his last IPL season during the 2023 season. However, he continued for another season as he led the Kings to the fifth IPL title despite knee issues.
