In a significant development around Pakistan cricket, there are reports that the PCB is looking to bring back Mohammad Amir to their ODI set-up. According to a report from Ejaz Wasim Bakhri, the PCB, in an attempt to uplift the standard of cricket within Pakistan, sees Amir as a crucial asset.
It is worth noting that Pakistan cricket has hit an all-time low after early exits from the T20 World Cup 2024 and a string of poor results, barring the recent win over England at Multan.
PCB Targets Amir For Champions Trophy 2025
The apex cricket board of Pakistan are now looking at Champions Trophy 2025, set to be hosted by Pakistan. To avoid embarrassment at home, the PCB is trying to bring back Amir.
Notably, Amir has not played a solitary ODI match for Pakistan since 2019, when he featured against Sri Lanka on October 2.
The left-arm bowler announced his international retirement at the age of 28 in December 2020, saying he could no longer play under the management and that he was being "tortured mentally".
However, Amir returned to cricket and reversed his decision before T20 World Cup 2024. Thus, the PCB also wants Amir to feature in Champions Trophy 2025 as he was the pick of the bowlers in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India when he took a three-wicket haul.
Amir Also To Return In T20Is
Amir's last international game was during T20 World Cup 2024 against India in June and has not been considered for the bilateral series since then. However, the latest report also mentioned that the selectors are considering him for the upcoming T20I series against Australia.
It is worth noting that Pakistan will face Australia for ODI and T20I series starting from November 4.
