Gujarat Titans beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets to win the 19th match of the IPL 2025 season. SRH failed to capitalise on home turf advantage and succumbed to only 152 runs total in the first inning. In reply, Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar stitched up a 90-run partnership to accomplish a comfortable 7-wicket win.
Here’s how SRH vs GT panned out in Hyderabad:
Siraj Magic Gets The Better Of SRH’s Lethal Batting Lineup
SRH batted first but GT’s Mohammed Siraj unravelled his magic at his home ground in Hyderabad. On the final ball of the first over, Siraj bowled a tidy length delivery on middle and leg stump line. He tempted Travis Head into a flick but the ball flew off the bat towards mid-wicket where Sai Sudharsan divided to pick a low catch.
With Travis Head dismissed on 8 runs, Siraj’s next victim was Abhishek Sharma. He bowled a similar delivery to the previous one to dismiss Head. Abhishek looked to take the aerial route but didn't get enough elevation or timing. The ball went straight to mid-on where Rahul Tewatia made no mistake with a clean catch. With 38 runs on the board, SRH had both openers back in the hut.
SRH Finish With Underwhelming Total
Prasidh Krishna helped Mohammed Siraj from the other end to dismiss Ishan Kishan. While Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen had a 50-run partnership, Sai Kishore got the breakthrough and dismissed both batters in his successful spell. SRH kept on losing wickets and failed to build any sizeable partnership. As a result, they were restricted to 152/8 at the end of the first 20 overs. For GT, Siraj breathed fire with 4 wickets and conceded only 17 runs.
GT Rattled In Chase After Shami, Cummins’ Dual Blow
Gujarat Titans messed up their powerplay in the second inning as Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler lost their wickets inside the first 4 overs. While Sudharsan mistimed his full shot to hole out to Aniket Verma, Buttler got an inside edge against Cummins and nicked it to Heinrich Klaasen. With that, Gt were reduced to 16/4.
Titans Breach Hyderabad’s Fortress After Gill-Sundar’s Partnership
Regardless, despite two wickets, Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar, who was promoted to no.4, knitted a match-winning partnership of 90 runs. Sundar showcased his talent as a batter, scoring 49 off 29 balls, missing his half-century by a single as he was dismissed by Shami in a controversial catch.
Shami bowled a short-of-length delivery outside off and Sundar went for a cut toward sweeper cover. Aniket Verma came charging in, dived forward, and claimed a low catch. Replays showed a tight call, with one angle suggesting the ball may have scraped the turf just before Aniket got his hands under it. But after multiple replays, the third umpire deemed it a clean catch.
Meanwhile, the chase was reduced to a formality as Shubman Gill hit winning runs in the 17th over to finish with 61* off 43. Owing to his knock, GT clinched a 7-wicket win whereas SRH faced their 4th straight defeat.
