New Zealand all-rounder, Glenn Phillips, who is yet to play a single game for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, made his way onto the field as a substitute during Match 19 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he had a forgettable brief outing as he suffered an injury.
Glenn Phillips Suffers Injury Scare During Fielding After Coming In As Substitute
The fifth ball of the sixth over was just a routine single, nothing out of the ordinary. But then Phillips got injured while fielding. Prasidh Krishna was the bowler. He sent down a short-of-a-length delivery outside off.
Ishan Kishan, who was batting on 14, steered it through point for a single. The ball trickled towards the deep and Phillips went after it. But as he charged, he seemed to twist or pull something.
The cameras caught him grimacing. Then he dropped to the ground. The physio rushed in immediately. And before anyone could blink, Glenn Phillips was being helped off the field.
This will be a tough pill to swallow for Gujarat Titans, especially since Phillips hadn’t even played a match this season. The Kiwi batter was waiting for his chance, hoping to light up the IPL, but instead an unfortunate injury has now left his future hanging.
As of now, there's no official word from the Gujarat Titans medical team or management on the extent of the injury. Fans will be hoping it’s nothing major. Phillips is a game-changer on his day, powerful with the bat, handy with the ball and a livewire in the field. But for now, it’s a waiting game.
