Bangladesh pipped Pakistan in a low-scoring thriller in Mirpur to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. Bowlers scripted Bangladesh’s spirited fightback after Jaker Ali waged his team’s lone rebellion with the bat in the first half of the game.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the second T20I of the series, as it panned out at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday, July 22.
Jaker Ali Fuels Bangladesh To 133 After Early Troubles
Bangladesh lost both openers, Mohammad Naim and Parvez Hossain Emon, as well as captain Litton Das and number four Towhid Hridoy all inside the powerplay to slip to 28-4.
Jaker Ali at number five led Bangladesh’s spirited fightback with a 53-run partnership with Mahedi Hasan (33 off 25). Jaker himself top-scored in the innings with a cunning half-century, belting five sixes and a boundary in his 55-run knock before falling to Abbas Afridi.
Abbas picked up one more wicket in the slog overs to restrict the hosts to 133 in 20 overs. For Pakistan, new ball paceman Salman Mirza (2-17) and fellow quick Ahmed Daniyal (2-23) picked up two wickets each in the innings.
Bowlers Edge Out PAK Batters As Bangladesh Win Series
Pakistan’s run-chase endured a nightmare start, right from Saim Ayub’s runout to Rishad Hossain in the opening over of the innings. Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2-23) both picked up four wickets between them inside the powerplay itself as Pakistan slipped to 17-5 in six overs.
Tottering at 30-6, soon to be 47-7, Faheem Ashraf muscled a clobbering half-century while batting with the tail to keep Pakistan in the hunt. The cricketer whacked four fours and four sixes in his 32-ball 51 before getting cleaned up by Rishad Hossain in the penultimate over.
Mahedi Hasan also picked up two wickets, while Shoriful snared his third to claim figures of 3-17 as Bangladesh edged out Pakistan by eight runs to go 2-0 up in the three-match series.
