Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has questioned the current team management, helmed by head coach Gautam Gambhir, over the selection confusion between fast bowlers Anshul Kamboj and Harshit Rana. It is worth noting that Harshit was picked over Anshul in the Indian team for the ongoing five-match Test series in England, even though the latter had performed better in the preceding A matches against England Lions.

With Team India currently marred by several injury concerns, Shubman Gill and co. will face England in the fourth Test of the series from July 23 onwards.

Chopra Questions Continuity Errors In Indian Management

While speaking on his YouTube channel, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has questioned the management for initially sending Anshul Kamboj back home, only to call him back again for the Test series in England. He said:

“It’s very interesting. There was a lot of chatter about Anshul Kamboj. He did well for India A as well, but when there was an opportunity earlier, the team management chose Harshit Rana first. Anshul was sent back home, and now we are learning about his name again.”

Aakash Chopra also expressed his confusion over the decision of preferring Harshit Rana over Anshul Kamboj during the first half of the tour, even when the latter performed better against England Lions. He added:

“Harshit Rana is not there. Now you have to wonder, what actually goes on? How do you determine who to keep and who to let go of? If you talk about performances for India A, Anshul’s performance was better, but you kept Harshit Rana looking at continuity. If that was the case, then you should have kept Harshit Rana now as well. But he is not there; Anshul Kamboj is there. No clarity whatsoever. Maybe the management knows, but nobody is telling us anything.”

With Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep nursing their injuries, several reports indicate that Anshul Kamboj might receive a call-up into the Indian team for the fourth Test. The match will be hosted by Old Trafford in Manchester between July 23 and July 27.

Harshit Rana, meanwhile, last played for Team India late last year during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series in Australia.
