On Sunday, August 10, South Africa locked horns against Australia for the 1st T20I of the three-match series. The visiting captain won the toss and opted to field first.

Australia, batting first, lost three early wickets for just thirty runs on the board. Tim David was the star with the bat as the right-handed star missed out on a well-deserved hundred and returned to the pavilion with a score of 83 (52), which featured four fours and eight sixes.

Eventually, Kwana Maphaka brought the Proteas back on track as the left-arm seamer registered his career-best spell and took a four-wicket haul. Courtesy of Maphaka's spell, South Africa bowled out Australia for the first time in their T20I career.

Australia were bowled out for 178 runs after a run-out on the last ball of the first innings helped South Africa script that feat. Prior to this match, South Africa came close to bowling out Australia in 2016, when the Men in Yellow were reduced to 157/9 in Durban.

Australia Tumble On Home Soil

While, Australia were bowled out for the firs time in their T20I history, the 178 runs total is far from their lowest totals in the shortest format of the game. Australia's lowest total against the Proteas  is 139/8 at Centurion in 2008.

The 178 runs innings is Australia's seventh lowest-total in their lowest T20I total against the Rainbow Nation. Although, it is their second-lowest total at home against South Africa.

Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, South Africa are 40/2 after 4.4 overs and still require 137 runs to win in 91 deliveries to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
