On Sunday, August 10, a shocking development took place in Indian cricket as reports emerged that the BCCI had served an ultimatum to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, asking the veterans to retire after the Australia series or feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy to be in contention for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

If the rumours are to be true, then Virat Kohli and Rohit are likely to be seen in domestic cricket as the Vijay Hazare Trophy starts from December 24. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on Virat and Rohit's last appearance in the premier List A tournament of India.

Virat Kohli's Last Vijay Hazare Trophy appearance came in the 2009-10 season, when Delhi locked horns against Services on February 18 in Gurgaon.

Notably, Virat Kohli captained the side but failed to produce results with the bat as he scored just 16 (8), which featured three boundaries. Nonetheless, Delhi scored 311 runs and restricted Services to just 198 runs, resulting in a 113-run win for the hosts.

Rohit Sharma’s last Vijay Hazare Trophy match was the semi-final for Mumbai against Hyderabad on October 17, 2018, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

In that match, Mumbai chased a revised target of 96 runs (after rain), with Rohit scoring 17 runs off 24 balls before being dismissed at 73/1 in 9.5 overs. Eventually, Mumbai set-up a final against Delhi, but the hitman did not feature in that match.

Notably, the BCCI had made a similar demand to the senior stars ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024, where they ordered senior stars to return to Ranji Trophy.
