In a crucial juncture of the WPL finals between Royal Challengers Bangalore Women and Delhi Capitals Women, Smriti Mandhana wasted her strong start, thus leaving RCB in jeopardy in a tense low score chase.

RCB-W took on DC-W for the final of the second edition of the WPL tournament earlier today. While the hosts batted first, Meg Lanning’s tactics backfired as Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux’s heroics with the ball restricted DC to a below-par total of 113 runs.

Defying the pressure of the finals, RCB-W captain Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine put together a 49-run partnership to ensure RCB gets through the early jitters. While Devine fell victim to Minnu Mani, Mandhana anchored the innings from one end.

The only thing left for Smriti Mandhana was to bat deep and get RCB to the finish line, as well as script history for the franchise with a maiden title win.

However, in a quest to wrap things up quickly, Mandhana holed out to Minnu Mani. The bowler went round the wicket and released a tossed up delivery in the middle and off stump. Smriti Mandana misused the slog sweep attempt and the thick outside edge landed into the safe hands of Arundhati Reddy at mid-on.

Nevertheless, RCB-W won the close-fought  be confident as in-form Ellyse Perry is battling it out with Richa Ghosh. History awaits RCB as they eye their maiden WPL title.
