Shreyanka Patil became the leading wicket-taker of WPL 2 (X.com)
The Royal Challengers Bangalore with their superb bowling effort pushed Delhi Capitals on the backfoot in the final of the WPL season 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Shreyanka Patil wreaked havoc with her four-wicket haul and became the front-runner for the Purple cap in the second edition of the WPL.
The Delhi Capitals were bowled out for just 113 runs in the high-voltage final and that too in their own den. Until the powerplay, the Capitals scored runs with utmost dominance and were 61 for no loss of wickets after six overs.
Smriti Mandhana and the company came back hard and scalped seven wickets in the overs 8-15, giving just 29 runs. Despite having the likes of Alice Capsey, Jemimah Rodrigues, Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen in the middle-order, who are well-established international players, the Delhi Capitals were not able to fight back.
Shreyanka Patil - The Purple Cap holder
The bowling all-rounder, Shreyanka Patil, who was at nine wickets before this game, climbed up to the top spot with four more wickets and dismissed the likes of Meg Lanning, Minnu Mani, Arundhati Reddy and Taniya Bhatia.
With 13 wickets under her belt, Patil was crowned with the Purple cap. Out of these 13 wickets, eight of them came against Delhi Capitals. She also recorded the best figures of her Women's Premier League career as 4/12 in 3.3 overs.
If Marizanne Kapp, does not get two or more wickets in this final, then Shreyanka Patil will remain the owner of the Purple Cap and will become the winner as well.
Nevertheless, RCB are cruising in the chase of this final as the score reads 53/1 after 9 overs, as the Bengaluru-based side is 61 runs away from the franchise's maiden trophy.
