Indian T20I stars Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube made their respective returns to Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 set up for the quarterfinals after starring in India’s 4-1 series win over England. Senior men Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara once again made their bids for a potential national comeback. Meanwhile, Karun Nair continues to rack up runs this Indian domestic season, regardless of the format.

Here we take a look at how some of the biggest names of Indian cricket fared in their respective Ranji Trophy outings at the end of Day 1.

Karun Nair Sustains Prolific Form

Vidarbha veteran Karun Nair sustained his prolific run with the bat, this time plundering 100 unbeaten runs against Tamil Nadu in the second quarter-final match in Nagpur. Batting at number five, the cricketer batted out 180 deliveries and dispatched 14 of them for boundaries and another one for a huge six to lift Vidarbha from a precarious 44-3 to 264-6 by stumps on Day 1.

Nair also hammered down 778 runs during the recently-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season.

Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube Struggle On Ranji Trophy Return

Mumbai middle-order batters Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube both failed to make an impact on their respective returns to Ranji Trophy. Facing Haryana in the third quarterfinal, Suryakumar was cleaned bowled by Haryana fast bowler Sumit Kumar for just nine, while Shivam fell to Ajit Chahal after reaching 28.

Both cricketers recently featured in India’s playing XI for their home T20I series against England.

Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane Squanders Away Confident Start

Seasoned Indian campaigner and Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane punched out a confident 31 from 58 balls, but the legendary cricketer had well-set stay curtailed by Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj. Fortunately for Rahane, the Mumbai team reached a respectable 278-8 by stumps courtesy of Shams Mulani’s 91.

Cheteshwar Pujara Fails To Rescue Saurashtra

India’s Test discard Cheteshwar Pujara failed to rescue Saurashtra against Gujarat in the fourth quarter-final of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy in Rajkot. Batting at number three, the legendary cricketer batted for nearly an hour to face 38 deliveries. Scoring 26 runs with six boundaries, Pujara was dismissed by left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai as Saurashtra folded up for just 216 on Day 1.
