The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to step in and take responsibility of the pending payments of all international players signed from BPL draft. The BPL 2024-25 season came to a conclusion on Friday, February 7 with a thrilling high-scoring finale between Chittagong Kings and defending champions Fortune Barishal.

While the six-week event witnessed numerous high-octane showdowns at several near-capacity Bangladesh grounds, the tournament was also marred with players’ non-payment issue. The Durbar Rajshahi franchise turned out to be the biggest offenders, as they failed to clear the dues of several of its overseas as well as local players.

BCB steps in to clear pending dues of BPL players

As reported by the Daily Star, the BCB would be overseeing the non-payment issue of drafted foreign players who participated in the BPL 2024-25 season. However, the board is yet to make a similar commitment for the pending dues of the directly-signed overseas cricketers of the tournament.

While the BCB will be clearing the dues of draft signed players like Durbar Rajshahi’s Sri Lanka import Lahiru Samarakoon, it remains to be seen if the board will also be clearing the pending payments of players Ryan Burl, Mohammad Haris among others who were directly signed by the franchise.

In addition, the BCB will be overseeing the smooth return of overseas players to their respective countries after the completion of their respective BPL stints.

BCB President Faruque Ahmed has stated that the board’s latest initiatives ‘underscores’ their commitment of upholding the “integrity of BPL and providing a professional experience of all players”.

BPL 2025 final, as it happened

The final match played between Chittagong Kings and defending champions Fortune Barishal turned out to be a high-scoring cracker in Dhaka on Friday, February 7. Chasing 195 for a win, Tamim Iqbal-led Barishal overcame their target with three wickets and three balls to spare. Iqbal himself laid the foundation at the top with a swift 29-ball 54.

Kyle Mayers’ 28-ball 46 and Rishad Hossain’s six-ball 18* also catalyzed Barishal’s run-chase as they successfully completed their title-defense.
