In a shocking collapse, Mumbai lost five wickets with just 65 runs on the board in the Ranji Trophy fixture against Haryana. Big guns like Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube were sent back on shambolic scores as Ajinkya Rahane was forced to initiate rescue work.
Mumbai faced Haryana in the Quarter final of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bat first on a damp Eden Gardens pitch.
The choice backfired on Rahane as Mumbai witnessed a shambolic collapse, leaving the fans and critics stunned.
Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube disappoint on Ranji's return
Mumbai, the defending champions, were poised to jet off to a good start with the quality of batters present in their lineup. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube were named in the playing XI after they wrapped up the T20I series against England.
However, Haryana’s bowling attack breathed fire as Mumbai were challenged. Ayush Mhatre, the promising opener was cleaned up by Anshul Kamboj on the very first delivery of the game.
Akash Anand and Siddhesh Lad were sent back in a single over by Sumit Kumar, with Mumbai reduced to 14/3. To add to the misery, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, the quality international cricketers, struggled with red ball.
While Suryakumar was bowled by Sumit Kumar, Dube fell prey to Yuzvendra Chahal’s spin web. He got caught out by Lakshya Dalal as Mumbai lost half the side with barely 65 runs on the board.
Ajinkya Rahane recuses Mumbai
Eventually, from 65/5, captain Ajinkya Rahane and Shams Mulani teamed up to rescue the team from a potentially humiliating collapse. Interestingly, Shardul Thakur is yet to bat for Mumbai and he has been in excellent form, having scored a century against Jammu and Kashmir.
