In a completely one-sided Super League Group B clash of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Elite 2025, Hyderabad thrashed Mumbai by 9 wickets. The openers finished the chase in just 11.5 overs at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
What looked like a competitive fixture on paper turned into a stunning demolition job by Hyderabad’s top order.
Yashasvi Jaiswal wastes a strong start
Mumbai, one of India’s most iconic domestic teams, had a day they would want to forget. Put into bat, they struggled right from the start. Although Yashasvi Jaiswal showed intent with a quick 29 off 20, wickets kept falling around him.
With neither Rahane 9, Sarfaraz 5, or Angkrish Raghuvanshi 4 could forge a partnership or big stand to leave Mumbai under pressure early. Hardik Tamore and Suryansh Shedge tried to steady the innings with a 45-run stand, but Hyderabad kept chipping away.
No Mumbai batter crossed 30, and their strike rotation was poor. From 52/3 in the powerplay, Mumbai collapsed to 131 all out.
Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler with excellent figures of 3/17, while Milind and Tanay Thyagarajan grabbed two wickets each. Eventually, Mumbai settled for a low total of 131/10, which was never going to be enough.
Aman-Tanmay’s stand sweeps Mumbai to a humiliating loss
Chasing 132, Hyderabad’s openers turned the game into a highlight reel. Aman Rao and Tanmay Agarwal came out firing, smashing Mumbai’s bowling attack to all parts of the ground.
The two added a big 127-run opening stand in just 11.2 overs, burying all hopes of Mumbai.
Tanmay Agarwal played an incredible knock of 75 off just 40 balls, smashing 7 fours and 4 sixes. His intent was to go after the bowling right from the very first over, and at no stage did he allow any of the bowlers to get their length right.
Aman Rao matched him stroke for stroke, remaining unbeaten on a blazing 52 off 29 balls. Their partnership ensured the chase was over long before Mumbai could even think of a comeback.
Mumbai’s bowling, meanwhile, was helpless. Captain Shardul Thakur was taken apart for 24 runs in his only over, while Kotian and Ankolekar also faced the heat.
The only wicket came through Tushar Deshpande, who dismissed Tanmay late in the chase. Hyderabad eventually won by 9 wickets to hand Mumbai an embarrassing defeat.
