India draws two-match Test series vs SA | Source: X.com
Team India secures a seven-wicket victory against South Africa in the second Test at Cape Town, levelling the two-match Test series on Thursday, January 4.
While setting new benchmarks, this Test match etches its place in cricket history by becoming the shortest-ever played, adding to the list of broken records.
The Cape Town Test finished in just 107 overs (642 balls), marking it as the shortest ever in history, surpassing their previous record set against England in 2021 (842 balls).
Opting to bat after winning the toss, South Africa's decision turned disastrous as they were bundled out for a mere 55 runs. Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc, claiming a sensational six-wicket haul and dismantling their top order.
India, too, faced struggles, managing only 153 runs before getting bundled out. South Africa then struggled against Jasprit Bumrah, setting a target of 79 runs for India in the fourth inning.
India lost three wickets in the chase, but led by captain Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 17 runs off 22 balls, they successfully reached the target in a swift 12 overs.
With this, Team India makes history by becoming the first Asian team to triumph over South Africa in Cape Town in Test cricket. However, their dream of winning a Test series in the rainbow nation remains unrealised.
