Pakistan Test captain and batting barnacle Shan Masood notched up a scintillating double century in the opening match of the 2025-26 President's Trophy Grade-I in Karachi. Leading the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited team and batting at number three, the elegant left-hander reached an unbeaten 212* from just 185 balls by close of play on Day 1.

Notably, Shan Masood raced to his double hundred from just 177 balls, shattering a three-decade-old record set by former Pakistani skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Shan Masood notches up Pakistan’s fastest 200

Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood raced to a double century from just 177 balls for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited against Sahir in match number one of the 2025-26 President's Trophy Grade-I at the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex in Karachi.

Through the course of his knock, the cricketer soared past Inzamam-ul-Haq for his 188-ball double ton back in 1992 to record the fastest double century by any Pakistani batter in first-class history.

Last year, Mohammad Ikhlaq also recorded a double hundred from 199 balls, while legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi blasted a 200 from 204 balls during his playing days. Here is a look at five of Pakistan’s fastest double-centuries in first-class cricket.

Fastest first-class double hundreds by Pakistani batters:

Players
Number of balls taken
Shan Masood177 balls
Inzamam-ul-Haq188 balls
Kamran Akmal196 balls
Mohammad Ikhlaq199 balls
Shahid Afridi204 balls

Shan Masood’s double ton, coupled with Ali Zaryab’s epic 192 from 237 balls helped Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited mount 460-2 in just 82.1 overs by stumps on Day 1.

Nonetheless, the innings marked Masood’s 33rd century in first-class cricket, and his fastest ever in the format. Holding a batting strike rate of around 56, the Test purist belted Sahir bowlers with a strike rate of nearly 115 on Day 1.
