Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan created history as Bangladesh faced India in match 47 of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Antigua in their Super Eights match as he became the first-ever player to take 50 wickets in the T20 mega-event.

Bowling in the 4th over of the powerplay, Shakib reached his 50-wicket feat as he dismissed the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma who was looking dangerous with his quick start, hitting 3 fours and a six. After getting hit for 10 runs in 3 balls, he foxed Sharma by dragging his length back to get him caught.

The 37-year-old has been a part of the Bangladesh T20 World Cup side right from the inaugural edition in 2007 and it took him 42 matches to complete his 50 wickets, Denesh Ramdin being his first scalp in Johannesburg in 2007.

The ex-Bangladesh captain will most likely hold on to the record for a long time as the next best active player, Hasaranga, who is already out of the 2024 edition finds himself 13 wickets away at 37. Adam Zampa (34) is the closest to Shakib among the players who are still part of the ongoing tournament.

His best edition, in terms of numbers, came in 2021 where he scalped 11 wickets in 6 matches followed by 2016 with 10 wickets in 7 matches. His 50 wickets have come at an average of 19.5 with the best bowling figures of 4 wickets for just 9 runs.
