Afghanistan will face Australia in match 48 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as the teams will be playing their second game of the Super Eights in Arnos Vale Stadium, Kingstown on June 22 (local time).

Australia will be taking the field with the hope of making it to the semi-final before going into the final match of the second round of the tournament against India. On the other hand, Afghanistan will be playing for survival in the tournament after suffering a loss to India.

The Aussies convincingly defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs (DLS) in a rain-affected previous fixture in Antigua whereas Afghanistan lost to India by 47 runs as they failed to chase down India's 181 runs in Barbados.

The two sides have previously only faced off once in T20I cricket during the T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide where the tournament hosts, Australia managed a narrow win after being well and truly troubled by the Afghan pace attack where Naveen-Ul-Haq ended with a three-fer for 21 runs in his four overs and 2/29 for Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh added important 54*(32) and 45(30) respectively.

Afghanistan, while chasing 168, fell short by 4 runs as Rashid Khan scored 48*(23) after Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 30(17) and Gulbadin Naib's 39(23). Adam Zampa was Australia's pick of the bowlers with 2/22.
