In the ongoing Irani Cup 2024 match between Mumbai and the Rest Of India at the Ekana Stadium, Sarfaraz Khan etched his name into the history books as he became the first-ever Mumbai cricketer to score a double hundred in Irani Cup.
Sarfaraz brought up his double-hundred on day 2 of the Irani Cup as he took just 253 deliveries to bring up this milestone.
Sarfaraz Khan Etched Name Into History Books
Not only did he become the first-ever Mumbai player to score a double hundred, but he now also boasts the title of the highest individual score for Mumbai in the Irani Cup. He achieved this feat even before he got to his double hundred, bettering the 195 runs scored by Ramnath Parkar in 1972.
Further, Sarfaraz also became the fourth youngest centurion in the history of the Irani Cup. Sarfaraz is 26 years and 346 days, while his India teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal is the youngest to achieve the feat at 21 years and 63 days. Pravin Amre (22 years and 80 days) and Gundappa Viswanath (25 years and 255 days) are the other two sitting ahead of Sarfaraz in the list.
Emotional Time For Sarfaraz Khan
The double hundred has come at an emotional time for Sarfaraz Khan as his family went through a trauma in the last few days. Notably, his brother Musheer and father Naushad Khan were involved in an accident on the outskirts of Lucknow, when they were travelling to join the Irani Cup squad.
Musheer suffered a neck fracture in the accident and will be out of the game for nearly four months. Talking about Sarfaraz, he was released by the Indian team ahead of the 2nd Test against Bangladesh in the recently concluded Test series.
