[Mumbai 1st innings: 237/4 (68), Ajinkya Rahane 86*, Shreyas Iyer 57, Sarfaraz Khan 54*; Mukesh Kumar 3/60, Yash Dayal 1/46]

Riding on scintillating fifties from Ajinkya Rahane, Sarfaraz Khan and Shreyas Iyer, Mumbai had a memorable outing with the bat in the ongoing Irani Trophy match against the Rest of India (ROI) at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Irani Trophy Day 1 Highlights: Mukesh Kumar's Clinical Spell Rattles Mumbai's Top Order

After ROI's captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl, Mumbai had a disastrous start to their innings, losing Prithvi Shaw cheaply. Mukesh Kumar emerged as ROI's wrecker-in-chief with the ball, dismantling Mumbai with a sensational three-wicket haul. Apart from Shaw, Ayush Mhatre and Hardik Tamore were dismissed as Mukesh's victims in this high-voltage clash.

Irani Trophy Day 1 Highlights: Rahane, Iyer Steady The Ship Before Sarfaraz Unleashes Beast Mode

However, despite getting early breakthroughs, ROI couldn't claim the driving seat for long, thanks to a valiant fourth-wicket stand between skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer. Soon after completing his fifty, Iyer was dismissed by Yash Dayal for a glorious 84-ball 57.

On the other hand, Rahane held his nerves, frustrating ROI's rampant bowling unit with his grit and determination. The out-of-favour Indian batter formed a valuable partnership with Sarfaraz Khan, ensuring Mumbai's domination on day 1.

While Rahane remained unbeaten on 86, fourteen runs shy of a well-deserved century, Sarfaraz struck six gorgeous boundaries for his 88-ball 54*. The duo added 98 runs for the fifth wicket, headlining Mumbai's strong finish on the opening day. With 22 overs left, the game was called off due to bad light. Mumbai will resume their first innings from 237/4 on day 2 of this high-octane encounter.
