Smriti Mandhana has heaped a significant praise on skipper Harmanpreet Kaur mere days prior to India’s opening match of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The dashing Indian opener also additionally acknowledged the growth in popularity of women’s cricket.

Both Mandhana and Kaur, along with the rest of their Indian colleagues are currently in the UAE for the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup.

Smriti Mandhana praises captain Harmanpreet Kaur

Smriti Mandhana made her international debut for Team India back in mid-2013 under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur. Having spent the majority of her Indian playing days alongside Harmanpreet, Mandhana praised the Indian skipper for her fearsome approach on the field.

The Indian vice-captain also expressed her admirations towards Kaur for seamlessly motivating the younger players in the team. While speaking with the Star Sports Network, Smriti Mandhana said:

“It’s been amazing to be on this journey with Harman since my debut. Over the last 8-9 years, we’ve seen how much women’s cricket has grown. One thing about Harman is that she’s always going to fight it out, no matter the situation. She’s fierce and always gives her best, and that’s something I admire. She’s not only a motivation for me but also for the younger players in the team.”

The Indian women’s team is currently in Dubai as they brace themselves for their opening match of the 2024 T20 World Cup against New Zealand. The match will be hosted by the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 4 and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.

Quite recently, the ‘Women in Blue’ defeated West Indies and South Africa in both warm-up fixtures to rehearse for the tournament on a winning note. Here is a look at India’s entire squad for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup:
