India A are up against England Lions in the first unofficial Test match. There are a lot of quality players in the Indian side whose performances would be closely monitored. Some of them are flighting for a place in the playing XI for the first Test in the main squad, while some are itching to prove a point after their exclusion.
Karun Nair And Sarfaraz Khan Show Class In Tough Conditions
Now, players from both the categories have stepped up on Day 1. Karun Nair who has made his comeback in the senior side, is batting beautifully and has hit fifty. Sarfaraz Khan has also shown that he can bat in English conditions and has compiled a good fifty, after India A were under pressure early in the first session.
Karun Nair was in great form in domestic cricket for Vidarbha in the last season and those consistent performances have brought him in the Indian squad again. He has continued that hunger for runs in the first game of the England tour and is playing like a man on a mission.
Sarfaraz Khan Hits Back With The Bat After Omission From The Indian Test Side
This performance could help Karun Nair break into the playing XI for the first Test. Sarfaraz Khan, on the other hand, has been omitted from the Indian Test side despite doing decently in the limited opportunities he has got.
The perception is that he would not be successful in English conditions where the ball will move around a lot. However, he is now making sure he answers his critics with the bat, something which he has been doing consistently in domestic cricket.
Earlier, Abhimanyu Easwaran, the skipper of the side, lost his wicket early, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, after fighting hard, also departed on 24.
