Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has surpassed the legendary MS Dhoni to become the Indian captain with the most wins in T20 Internationals. This milestone was achieved during India's opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024, where they triumphed over Ireland by 8 wickets.

India, having won the toss, opted to bowl first. The formidable Indian bowling attack showcased their prowess, restricting Ireland to a mere 96 runs. This disciplined performance set the stage for a comfortable chase.

Opening the innings, Rohit Sharma partnered with Virat Kohli. Rohit displayed a masterclass in batting, scoring his first fifty of the tournament before retiring hurt. 

His stunning innings ensured that India secured an early momentum in the World Cup campaign. The chase was completed efficiently, leading India to their first victory of the tournament.

This win marked Rohit Sharma’s 42nd victory as captain in T20Is, surpassing MS Dhoni’s record. Dhoni, who had previously held the record of 41 wins, remains a towering figure in Indian cricket history,

Rohit Sharma's performance in the match also saw him achieving personal milestones. He became the first-ever batsman to hit 600 sixes in international cricket, underlining his prowess as a powerful hitter. 

Additionally, he crossed the 1000-run mark in T20 World Cups, further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest batsmen in the format.
