Eyes were on England's Jacob Bethell before the start of play on Day 2 as the left-handed batter is playing his first match of the series and first against India in his Test career.
However, Bethell's maiden game against the Shubman Gill-led side didn't turn out as expected, as the southpaw returned to the pavilion for a low score of 6 (14), which featured a solitary four.
Siraj's Peach Of A Delivery Crushes Bethell's Hopes
The RCB star walked to bat when England were 175/4. However, Jacob Bethell fell short of a peach of a delivery from Siraj as the right-arm seamer bowled a lethal yorker and the ball nipped back in late and hit Bethell straight on the shoe.
The umpire immediately raised his finger, and the 21-year-old didn't opt for a review as he knew he was plumbed in front of the wicket. It was a great match-up as Bethell represented RCB in IPL 2025, where he emerged as one of their best batters and lifted the trophy in his maiden season.
Further, Siraj was a former RCB star and earned his India debut courtesy of his performance with Bengaluru in the cash-studded league.
Bethell's Test Journey So Far
The 21-year-old showed promise in his maiden Test series as the southpaw made his debut against New Zealand in 2024. The southpaw played three matches against the Kiwis and amassed 260 runs, which included three-fifty-plus scores.
Bethell hogged the internet for slamming a half-century in every Test match. Therefore, the Three Lions would be optimistic that the 21-year-old will bounce back in the 2nd innings. Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, England are 215/7 after tea on Day 2 and trail by just nine runs. However, they have just two wickets in hand because Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the remainder of the match.
