In a significant development, Ishan Kishan has been appointed as the captain of the East Zone for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. The swashbuckling batter is all set to lead a star-studded side from the Eastern part of India, which is an amalgamation of experience and youth.
Ishan Named Captain, Shami Included In East Zone's 15-Man Squad
While Ishan Kishan has been named as the skipper, veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami has made it into the final list of fifteen players. The squad also includes experienced domestic batter Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has been named as Ishan's deputy. The development was brought to out notice by Jharkhand's local media agency, Lagatar News.

East Zone Squad For Duleep Trophy 2025
Ishan Kishan (C), Abhimanyu Easwaran (VC), Sandeep Pattnaik, Virat Singh, Denish Das, Sridam Paul, Sharandeep Singh, Kumar Kushagra, Riyan Parag, Utkarsh Singh, Manishi, Suraj Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Mohammed Shami
Meanwhile, explosive teen-age batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been kept among the six standby players. The other reserve players apart from the Rajasthan Royals' star are Mukhtar Hussain, Aasirwad Swain, Swastik Samal, Sudip Gharami and Rahul Singh.
It's worth mentioning that Ishan was left out of the BCCI central contract after pulling out of several red-ball matches.
However, he managed to make a comeback following his exploits in the domestic season last year. The Duleep Trophy gives him a golden opportunity to showcase his mettle in the red-ball format and make a strong case for his comeback into India's Test squad.
Meanwhile, Shami will also make his return to competitive cricket if he is included in the first-choice XI of East Zone for their opening encounter.
East Zone will take on a robust North Zone side in the first quarterfinal of the Duleep Trophy season.
