In an intense Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 game between Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) and Nellai Royal Kings (NRK) on Monday, June 9, something unusual happened on the cricket field. Chepauk’s opening batsman, K Aashiq, had his bat break right in the middle of a shot! The broken piece flew off and almost hit the bowler, Emmanuel Cherian, who was bowling at the time.

The incident happened early in the CSG's innings during the powerplay. Emmanuel bowled a good length delivery, and Aashiq tried to hit it towards long-on. But the force was so strong that the bat cracked and a part of it went flying toward the bowler. Luckily, no one was hurt, and the ball went on to be fielded at extra cover by NRK’s Arun Karthik.
Meanwhile , talking about the match, NRK won the toss and decided to bowl first. Chepauk lost an early wicket when RS Mokit Hariharan got out cheaply.
But Aashiq and skipper Baba Aparajith steadied the innings with a solid 83-run partnership. Aparajith scored 41 runs before getting out, while Aashiq went on to score 54 runs, playing smartly.
Later, Vijay Shankar and Swapnil Singh finished the innings with a bang. Swapnil was especially aggressive, smashing 45 runs in just 14 balls. Chepauk posted a strong total of 212 runs in 20 overs.
In response, NRK put up a valiant effort but fell short despite Muhammed Adnan Khan's explosive 48-run knock. The team managed to score 171 runs. Meanwhile, Abhishek Tanwar shone on the field, claiming 3 crucial wickets.
This impressive performance helped Chepauk Super Gillies secure a 41-run win, marking their second victory in the TNPL season.
