Rahmanullah Gurbaz was batting at his scintillating best on Thursday (August 24) in the second ODI of the three-match series between Afghanistan and Pakistan, taking place at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota. The 21-year-old tore apart each and every Pakistani bowler, who knocked them over for a humiliating 59-run total less than 48 hours ago.

In the process, Gurbaz achieved an astonishing feat, in which he went ahead of Babar Azam, the No. 1 ODI batsman in the world.

Gurbaz notched his fifth ODI hundred in 23 innings, two fewer than Babar Azam. Quinton de Kock and Imam-ul-Haq, who both got there in 19 innings, are ahead of Gurbaz in a chart full of prolific superstars of the game.

Gurbaz eventually fell after scoring 151 off 151 balls, laced with 14 fours and three sixes. Afghanistan, after an embarrassing 142-run defeat in the series opener, rode on his highest individual score to post 258/2 at the end of 44.3 overs.

Gurbaz was ably assisted by Ibrahim Zadran, who hit a fine 101-ball 80 to take Afghanistan to a strong position.
