India and Sri Lanka will go up against each other on Tuesday (September 12) in a crucial Super Four fixture of the Asia Cup 2023 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Men in Blue had to walk in the middle on consecutive days due to unpleasant weather conditions after persistent rain forced their match against Pakistan into the reserve day.

Sri Lanka, the defending champions, have been unbeaten in the tournament, and they defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs before coming to this fixture. India, on the other hand, are yet to complete their match against Pakistan, as their high-voltage clash is still in jeopardy at the time of writing.

Despite the traditional preference for spinners at R. Premadasa Stadium over pacers, the continuous rain over the past few days will equally benefit seam bowlers. However, if the batsmen take their time in the middle, they can hammer the bowlers left, right, and centre, as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill did against Pakistan's in-form bowlers at the same venue.

At the same time, it is important to remember that the match will be played under moist conditions. In such cases, a batsman must contend with the effects of damp ground, which slows the ball.

The bat absorbs moisture, making it more difficult to strike the ball deep. Moisture also reduces the grip between the feet and the ground due to decreased cohesion, necessitating much more effort during batting. Therefore, needless to say, batting will be more difficult on the Colombo pitch than bowling during the India versus Sri Lanka fixture.
