Australia pacer Nathan Ellis has been among the most consistent T20 bowlers in recent years, and the pacer has turned up in the ongoing BBL season in some style, as he picked up a crucial 3/30 against Melbourne Renegades to set up Hobart Hurricanes' fourth win of the season on Monday, December 29.

Having played all five matches so far, the Hurricanes speedster sits with 7 wickets in the season, only two behind the joint-leading wicket-takers, Tom Curran and Haris Rauf. Here's what Ravichandran Ashwin had to say about his chances of featuring in the IPL 2026 after he was retained by the Chennai Super Kings over Matheesha Pathirana.

While praising Ellis' effort against the Renegades, where he dismissed the dangerous Josh Brown for 26(13) in his first spell, followed by an exemplary spell in the death overs, where he got rid of Will Sutherland and Adam Zampa, conceding only 15 from the final two overs, Ashwin pointed out his commendable control over the change of pace and nailed on yorkers to restrict the visitors for 162 runs.

"The men in yellove will be happy with how he’s been shaping up. 4-0-30-3 for Hobart Hurricanes today. Most importantly, 2-0-15-2 at the death, bowling 17 and 20, nailing his yorkers and change of pace. Safe to say two overs of Ellis are locked at the ‘Pauk’ in the death for the summer of 26?," wrote the former CSK spinner on his Twitter (X) account.

So far in the season, he has also scalped figures of 1/39, 2/43 and 1/31 in the previous games, showcasing his wicket-taking ability, which was also on display during his time at the Punjab Kings' camp in 2023, where he got 13 wickets in 10 appearances.

While he has only played one match each in IPL 2024 and 2025, his white-ball bowling has only grown, and the consistency of picking important wickets will play a big role if he is given a chance in the upcoming season. Notably, he has ended 2025 as Australia's most successful bowler with 18 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of just over 8.
