The star Pakistan duo of Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi is all set to miss the white-ball tour to Zimbabwe scheduled to be played after Australian tour. As reported by Cricket Pakistan.com, the selectors are keen to rest senior players for Zimbabwe series and use the series as an opportunity to provide some game-time to young cricketers.
Along with Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, the likes of Mohammad Rizwan and Naseem Shah could also be rested for the series. However, all of them are likely to be selected for the Australia series that will be played before the Zimbabwe one.
Pakistan are slated to play three T20Is and three ODIs in Zimbabwe with the first ODI starting on 24th of November. Against Australia too, Pakistan will play three ODIs and three T20Is, and that tour will commence on November 4th and the final T20I will be played on November 18th, just few days before the start of the Zimbabwe series.
Selectors Keen To Increase Talent Pool Of Pakistan Cricket
Pakistan cricket has been going through a turmoil lately with results not going their way in T20 World Cup and Test cricket. There have been lot of changes in the management, leadership and after the loss against England in the first Test, Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi along with Naseem Shah and Sarfaraz Ahmed were dropped from the squad.
The new selection committee took those bold decisions to drop their star players and it produced positive result with Pakistan winning the second Test. They now seem to be keen to increase the talent pool in Pakistan cricket and Zimbabwe series provides a perfect opportunity to try out some consistent domestic performers.
