While in batting, Rachin Ravindra had the perfect homecoming as he smacked a brilliant century to snatch the game away from the Indian side. Tactical blunder by Rohit after winning the toss

Overcast conditions, a seaming deck on offer, and any captain after winning the toss would have bowled first. But not Rohit Sharma, he decided to sprung a surprise and elected to bat first, a decision that instantly back-fired.

The entire side were bundled out for a mere 46, and out of 10 batters, 5 registered ducks as the Kiwi bowlers ran riot. Rishabh Pant was the highest scorer for India with 20 runs, as the famed Indian lineup crumbled when the ball started to talk. This decision to bat first hurt the Indian side, as the situation would have been different had India chosen to bowl first against an inexperienced Kiwi batters.

Bowlers failed to contain New Zealand batters

On a pitch where India got bundled out for 46, New Zealand showed their class and piled on 402, thus taking the game away from the Indian team. While New Zealand bowlers picked early inroads to dent India's chances, the Indian bowlers couldn't pick wickets at regular intervals.

Barring Jasprit Bumrah, who was once again India's best bowler, the others simply failed to deliver. So much so, that Tim Southee, who is a designated bowler, notched up an aggressive fifty which further dented India's confidence.

Batters couldn't seize the opportunity in second innings

Rohit Sharma (52), Yashasvi Jaiswal (35), Virat Kohli (70). These are the scores of India's top-3 in the second innings. On paper, it looks amazing, but in reality, one of them should have gone onto score a daddy hundred.

The quick-fire fifties work in ODIs and T20Is, but in Tests, the top-order should bat for long and post big totals. Just look at Sarfaraz Khan, the youngster played with aggression, and yet notched up a brilliant 150.

When it mattered the most, the likes of KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja also failed to deliver as India crumbled from a strong position and handed over the win to the Kiwis.
