Chhattisgarh have beaten a star-studded Maharashtra unit in the Buchi Babu tournament match by 36 runs. It was a low-scoring game, and despite Maharashtra boasting of international players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Prithvi Shaw, they faltered massively with the bat.
Chattisgarh Gain First Innings Lead Despite Prithvi Shaw's Century
Chhattisgarh batted first and managed to score 252 in the first innings with Sanjeet Desai scoring 93. The likes of Shubham Agrawal and Avnish Singh Dhaliwal also made handy contributions. For Maharashtra, Vicky Ostwal and Hitesh Walunj picked three wickets apiece.
Maharashtra, in reply, started well with the bat with an opening stand of 71 runs. However, they lost their way after that, and it was only because of Prithvi Shaw's efforts that they managed to reach 217. Shaw scored a fantastic century on his Maharashtra debut, but Chhattisgarh still managed to take a lead of 35 runs.
Gaikwad, Shaw Falter In Run-Chase To Hand Chattisgarh A Special Win
Maharashtra bowlers then stepped with the ball in hand and cleaned up their opponents for just 149. Vicky Ostwal and Hitesh Walunj were stars with the ball again and both picked five-wicket hauls to give Maharashtra a great chance to win the game.
However, Chattisgarh managed to remove the centurion of the first innings, Prithvi Shaw, in just the second over, and no one could support their captain, Ankeet Bawne, who kept fighting till the 42nd over. He scored 66, but Ruturaj Gaikwad could muster only 11 runs as Maharashtra were also bowled out for 149 to lose the game by 36 runs.
Shubham Agrawal was the tormentor-in-chief with the ball in the final innings. He grabbed six wickets, and this win would give Chhattisgarh a lot of confidence with a long and challenging domestic season ahead. Maharashtra, on the other hand, would need to get their house in order quickly and click as a unit.
