Tuesday turned out to be an interesting day for the Indian cricket fans as the squad for the Asia Cup 2025 was revealed by the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar. A strong 15-member team was announced in Mumbai, as India aims to defend the Asia Cup title, which they won in the 2023 edition by defeating Sri Lanka.

Most of the players who were expected to be picked were included in the squad, while some shocking exclusions also took place. However, some cricketers were not included in the side, not due to any particular team strategy but due to their poor IPL performances.

In this article, we will talk about the Indian players, who were included in the last T20I series, but were omitted from the Asia Cup side due to an average IPL 2025 campaign.

1) Ramandeep Singh

Ramandeep Singh had an outstanding IPL campaign for KKR in the 2024 edition, and a lot was expected when Gautam Gambhir's trusted ally joined him for the England T20Is. However, a couple of poor performances derailed his T20I campaign as he managed just 15 runs in two matches.

Then came IPL 2025, and Ramandeep was expected to put on a stellar show for the Knight Riders, however, that was not the case.

  • India needed a solid finisher at number 6, 7, and Ramandeep had a golden chance to cement his place. However, he had a failed IPL campaign, and with an average of just 9.40, and a strike rate of 134, he was never making it into the team as India looked elsewhere.

2) Ravi Bishnoi

When Yuzvendra Chahal was removed from the T20I side, Ravi Bishnoi got his chance to cement a place in the team. For a brief period, he was also the number one-ranked T20I bowler, but the IPL 2025 changed everything for him.

  • As the table suggests, Bishnoi had an average IPL season, as he scalped only 9 wickets in 11 matches, with an economy of 10.84. He was predictable as a bowler with his googlies, and the selectors decided not to pick him.
  • Plus, the emergence of Digvesh Rathi derailed his campaign as Rathi overshadowed him and became LSG's front-line spinner.

3) Washington Sundar

The all-rounder was outstanding for India in the England Tests, even smashing a century. However, in the IPL, he had a forgettable tournament, especially with the ball in hand. With the bat, he scored a higher strike rate, but he was less useful with the ball.

  • Sundar is included in the stand-by players for the Asia Cup, but he is not in the main squad due to his bowling efforts in the IPL. He failed to put any pressure on the batters, and had an economy of almost 11 runs per over.
