On day 1 of the 2nd Test between Pakistan and West Indies, a total of 20 wickets fell as both sides were bowled out for bare minimum scores. West Indies ended their first innings on 163 after Noman Ali claimed a six-wicket-haul. However, Pakistan wasted Noman’s heroics as the batting order collapsed to 154, leaving behind a 9-run trail.

Here’s how Pakistan vs West Indies Day 1 panned out in Multan

PAK vs WI Day 1 Highlights: Debutant Kashif Ali picks maiden wicket

West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first. Pakistan’s debutant Kashif Ali made an impact quickly as he scalped Mikyle Louis’ wicket in the first over of his Test cricket career. A wobble seam on good length was good enough to lure Louis into a faint edge which was caught by keeper Mohammad Rizwan. Sajid Khan picked up another wicket of Amir Jangoo to rock West Indies on 9/2.

Once Sajid Khan and Kashif Ali got the momentum, Noman Ali completely destroyed the West Indies batting lineup. He picked a historic hat-trick in the 12th over to dismiss Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach and Kevin Sinclair in three successive deliveries. West Indies went from 38/4 to 38/7 in a span of just one over.

Noman further extended his dominance to claim a six-wicket-haul. However, Gudakesh Motie’s half-century avoided a disaster for the visitors. Kemar Roach (25) and Jomel Warrican (36) added crucial contributions to push the West Indies to a total of 163 runs.

West Indies responded with great spirit in the second inning. Pakistan lost opener Hurraira for 9 runs after Kemar Roach trapped him in LBW dismissal. In another setback, Babar Azam’s woes continued as he was cleaned up by Gudakesh Motie with a quick delivery that left him completely deceived. He went back with just 1 run on his name, which triggered a brutal collapse.

The advantage Pakistan had after the first inning was lost as the middle order collapsed. Jomel Warrican picked up a four-wicket-haul before Motie also picked up 3 wickets. Only Mohammad Rizwan from Pakistan showed some intent with 49 off 75 balls. Saud Shakeel also scored 32 off 62 balls. However, due to lack of intent from the rest of the lineup, the men in green collapsed to 154 runs at stumps on Day 1, leaving behind a trail of 9 runs.
