West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie is forcing everyone to change his designation to that of an all-rounder. Been regularly proving his mettle as a lower-order batter across formats of late, Motie has now registered his career-best knock in international cricket.

With West Indies losing wickets in clusters after captain Kraigg Brathwaite (9) won the toss and chose to bat in the second Test against Pakistan at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Motie found himself in the middle with the team reeling at 38/7 in the 12th over.

Capable of clearing the ropes due to frequent white-ball exposure, Motie’s maiden Test half-century witnessed him respecting the format, conditions and the opposition. As a result, the left-handed batter ended up scoring 55 (87) with the help of four fours.

A 68-run partnership for the 10th wicket between him and spinner Jomel Warrican (36*) powered the visitors to a respectable innings total of 163 in 41.1 overs.

Motie, who has crossed the 30-run mark at the highest level seven times in the last six and a half months, surpassed his previous best (50* against Sri Lanka in an ODI) batting performance for West Indies.

55 is also the highest individual score for a West Indian No. 9 batter against Pakistan in Tests . In doing so, Motie has broken a 48-year-old record held by Andy Roberts who had scored 35 runs.

12th visiting No. 9 batter to score a Test half-century against Pakistan in Pakistan, Motie is the third West Indian lower-order batter after Denesh Ramdin and Jason Holder to score a fifty against Pakistan.
