Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs ENG panned out in Rawalpindi:
PAK vs ENG Highlights: Rehan Ahmed Drives English Momentum With Key Wickets
Pakistan captain Shan Masood (26) failed to add much to his overnight score as he nicked one towards Ollie Pope off Shoaib Bashir at 99-4 within the opening hour of the day. Saud Shakeel subsequently carved 52 runs alongside Mohammad Rizwan (25) for the fifth wicket to take Pakistan past the 150-run mark.
With Pakistan gaining some momentum at 151-4, England’s leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed dismissed Rizwan, Agha Salman and Aamer Jamal within the space of a single spell to leave Pakistan hanging at 187-7 from 62 overs by lunch.
PAK vs ENG Highlights: Shakeel’s Rearguard Defiance Takes Pakistan Ahead
Forming forces at 177-7 to find themselves at the brink of facing a huge first innings deficit, Saud Shakeel took the ‘Men in Green’ past the English total with a fighting 88-run partnership with number nine Noman Ali (45 off 84).
Following Ali’s entrapment by Shoaib Bashir (3-129), number 10 Sajid Khan clobbered four huge sixes in his run-a-ball 48* to add 72 more runs to the Pakistani total. In the process, Saud Shakeel notched up his fourth Test century and finished with 134 runs from 223 balls to his name.
Shakeel’s defiance was eventually curtailed by Gus Atkinson, before Rehan Ahmed (4-66) dismissed number 11 Zahid Mahmood to pick up his fourth wicket of the innings. Pakistan amassed 344 runs to secure a sizeable 77-run first innings lead over the visitors, after having being reduced to 177-7 at one stage of the day.
PAK vs ENG Highlights: England Lose Openers, Pope By Stumps
Facing a 77-run deficit and left to survive the remaining nine overs of the day, England lost openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett to Noman Ali and Sajid Khan respectively within the first 15 minutes of the innings.
Ali also drew a big outside edge of England’s number three Ollie Pope for just a single as the visitors reached 24-3 before close of play. Unbeaten Joe Root (5*) and Harry Brook (3*) will resume the English innings on Day 3 as they find themselves another 53 runs away from Pakistan.
