Washington Sundar, one of the most underrated all-rounders in Indian cricket, achieved a career best 7/59 figures in the second Test against New Zealand. Having been recalled in the squad midway through the series, Sundar revealed how he manifested a special comeback by backing his skills and grit.
After a surprising loss against New Zealand in the first Test, team India called up Washington Sundar for the second Test in Pune and immediately included in the playing XI. On a rank turner wicket, Sundar played on his strengths and produced beautiful spells which left the Kiwis guessing. His unplayable deliveries fetched him a sensational five-wicket haul as Washington Sundar capped off the first innings with a career-high 7/59.
Washington Sundar and his art of manifestation!
Reflecting on the memorable day, Sundar revealed that he manifested his epic comeback since before his call-up for the Pune Test. In a video shared by BCCI, the all-rounder said that the fifer was a dream come true moment that he manifested to achieve in this series. For Sundar, a Test comeback was a matter of when and not if since he had the utmost faith in his skills and talent.
Sundar also acknowledged that the century in the Ranji Trophy game against Delhi played a part in his selection and that game also fuelled him with confidence since he regained rhythm with bat and ball.
While Gabba Test will also hold a special place in Sundar’s heart, the 7/59 against New Zealand is equally memorable and he is grateful for his manifestation to come true.
Indeed, Washington Sundar managed to live up to the captain and head coach’s belief and fulfilled his responsibilities beyond anyone’s wildest imagination. Notably, this series might also elevate Sundar’s selection probability for the Border Gavaskar series.
Sundar extends dominance into third innings
Following India’s unacceptable collapse to 156/10 in the second innings, the bowlers were tasked with the impossible task of saving the Test by bowling out New Zealand as quickly as possible. Washington Sundar, meanwhile, extended his sublime form with four more wickets to complete a 10-wicket-haul. He once again got rid of dangermen Conway and Rachin but with Kiwis lead exceeding 300, a reprieve seems improbable for the hosts.
