The fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has delivered its share of intense moments, with Jasprit Bumrah and Sam Konstas at the center of it all. The fiery rivalry between India’s pace spearhead and Australia’s debutant opener has fired up the overall taste of the series, and it reached a new level during the 10th over of Australia’s innings on Day 2.

Sam Konstas, known for his audacious approach, decided to take on Bumrah with a bold ramp shot. Konstas scooped up an angled leg stump good length delivery for a boundary over the third man area. The reverse scoop stunned the Indian team and drew cheers from the Sydney crowd.

However, Jasprit Bumrah’s reaction was anything but impressed. The Indian pacer, who had already exchanged heated words with Konstas on Day 1, glared back at the youngster, signalling that the battle was far from over.

The rivalry began on Day 1 when Konstas intervened in a last-ball argument between Bumrah and Usman Khawaja, leading to a heated exchange that required umpire intervention. However, Bumrah silenced Konstas briefly by dismissing Khawaja on the last ball of the day, but the young Australian seemed determined to challenge India’s ace bowler on Day 2 as well.

Siraj Avenges Bumrah With Konstas' Scalp

Despite the daring shot, Konstas’s resistance didn’t last long. In the 12th over, Mohammed Siraj delivered a crucial breakthrough, dismissing Konstas with a perfectly angled delivery that KL Rahul caught at second slip. Siraj celebrated the wicket animatedly which energized the Indian team and the fans. With Konstas’s dismissal, Siraj avenged Bumrah’s earlier skirmish, reasserting India’s dominance as they clawed back into the game.

At the time of writing, Australia is in hot waters as they lost Steve Smith ahead of Lunch who was looking solid from his start. Prasidh Krishna dismissed the veteran Aussie batter with a nick off the bat. At Lunch, the Baggy Greens stand at 101-5 with Alex Carey and Beau Webster at the crease.
