New Zealand and West Indies are set to face each other in a high-octane five-match T20I series in New Zealand, starting from November 5. The first T20I will be played at Eden Park, Auckland, with live action for fans starting at 11:45 AM IST.
New Zealand
Led by Mitchell Santner, the New Zealand squad comes off a setback after a demoralising loss against Australia in their last three-match T20I series, where they suffered a whitewash.
The Santner-led team will now look to bounce back with names like Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, and Tim Robinson chipping in with the bat, and some of them with the ball as well. Ish Sodhi is a notable inclusion in the squad, while Jacob Duffy and Zak Foulkes will be leading the pace unit.
West Indies
As for the West Indies, they will be riding high on confidence after a convincing victory over Bangladesh in their recent T20I series. Shai Hope will lead the squad, with Alick Athanaze, Akeem Auguste, Brandon King, and Sherfane Rutherford strengthening the batting unit, while Romario Shepherd, Jayden Seales, Kharry Pierre and Akeal Hosein will be the key bowlers expected to trouble the hosts.
NZ vs WI head-to-head overview in T20Is
New Zealand and the West Indies have played 20 matches against each other. Out of these 20 T20I contests, West Indies have secured only 5 wins, while New Zealand hold the edge with 10 victories. It is important to note that 2 matches between them ended with no result, while 3 matches were tied. Two of those tiebreaker wins were registered in favour of the West Indies.
Eden Park Auckland pitch report
The Eden Park outfield pitch is usually very batting-friendly, allowing for a high-scoring environment due to its flat surface and good carry to the bat. It is quite challenging for bowlers, as pacers can only find a hint of movement with the new ball and have to hit the deck hard to get any assistance.
Similarly, spinners also face some trouble early on, but as the game progresses, they might get some help from the surface. The captain winning the toss here would prefer to bowl first to make the most of the early assistance available for bowlers.
