Jemimah Rodrigues, India Women's World Cup semi-final hero, faced massive online trolling after her poor outing in the final against South Africa Women. Jemimah's former Delhi Capitals Women teammate and India veteran Shikha Pandey took to her social media handle to defend the 25-year-old.
Notably, Jemimah Rodrigues was trolled for crediting Jesus and thanking God for guiding her in the semi-final against Australia, where her unbeaten 127-run stand obliterated Women in Yellow's hope in a tense chase.
Why was Jemimah Rodrigues trolled?
While Jemi was overwhelmed with tears in her eyes, her words drew mixed reactions online, with people trolling him for bringing up Jesus' name in the post-match presentation.
“Firstly, I want to thank Jesus. I couldn't have carried it alone. Thanks to him. To my dad and mum and to everyone who has carried me. The last six months have been tough. I just had to show up every day and God carried me through. Initially, I keep talking to myself. In the end, I was just murmuring one scripture from the Bible. It says, "stand still and God will help you," Jemi told in the post-match presentation.
Pandey steps up to defend Jemi
Rodrigues shared the above words in a heartfelt confession after the match, and online trolls started hitting on her with the 'God' topic. Recently, Shikha Pandey, Jemi's DC-W teammate, took a stand for her taking to her X handle as she sent a stern message to the critics.
"Just putting this out for anyone who needs to hear the obvious - Yes, Jemi is God’s favourite child and if you are envious..umm..sorry, no one can help you!" Pandey wrote.
Though Jemimah had an outstanding outing against Australia, she couldn't replicate the success in the final against the Proteas Women as she fell for just 24 runs.
However, it had a little impact as Deepti Sharma, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma played valiant knocks to put up 298 on board, and India Women sailed to victory confidently by a margin of 52 runs to lift the historic World Cup.
