India's‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ spectacular victory in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 has made the entire country proud. However, the celebrations will not be as loud or extravagant as one might think.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that there would be no public rally to celebrate the victory of the World Cup-winning team. Instead, the team will be honored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 5 in New Delhi. The event, which will be held at the PM's residence, is a very formal way of recognizing the team's phenomenal feat.

Safety Concerns Lead to Cancellation of Parade

The decision to cancel an open victory parade was mainly due to concerns about security and logistics. Overcrowding and the chaos during a sports celebration in Bengaluru, earlier this year, is what prompted the authorities to take a more cautious approach. Besides the BCCI, security agencies have reached a conclusion that the safety of players and fans should be front and center, and this is the reason there will be no big public gathering.

The public was looking forward to a lavish welcome like that of the men’s team after their T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. Yet, the board thought that a controlled felicitation ceremony would ensure safety and orderliness. As per the schedule, the team will be in New Delhi on November 4, and the preparations for the PM's special event are already in full swing.

Recognition and future of Women’s cricket

The absence of a street celebration might cast a shadow on the mood of the people; however, the gesture of the Prime Minister, on the contrary, points to the increased recognition of women's cricket in India. This success at the World Cup should bring more viewers, sponsorships, and participation at the grassroots level. Besides, the BCCI will also hold a ceremony to honour the players after the PM's felicitation.

India's triumph in the World Cup is being celebrated as a landmark moment for women's cricket that goes beyond the players involved; it is for the little girls who dream of donning the Indian jersey someday.
