New Zealand cruised past South Africa’s 304-run total in match number two at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium to qualify for the tri-series final. For South Africa, debutant Matthew Breetzke hogged the limelight with a scintillating 150 at better than a run-a-ball.

Here’s the timeline of how NZ vs SA panned out in Lahore:

NZ vs SA Highlights: Matthew Breetzke Celebrates ODI Debut With Record Ton

South African opener and captain Temba Bavuma failed to go beyond his 20 after he nicked one towards wicketkeeper Tom Latham off Will O’Rourke in the eighth over of the match at 37-1. His opening partner and ODI debutant, Matthew Breetzke, marched on and crafted a 93-run partnership with Jason Smith for the second wicket.

Smith made 41 off 51 balls before he fell short to a run out, while wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne at number four scored just a single before getting knocked over by New Zealand off-spinner Michael Bracewell (1-43).

With both cricketers falling in quick succession around the halfway stage of the innings, Breetzke forged a fresh 131-run alliance with Wiaan Mulder, marking his maiden ODI century in the process to cap a remarkable debut.

Matthew Breetzke went on to chart 150 runs from just 148 balls with 11 boundaries and five sixes to record the highest individual score by a debutant in ODIs. Wiaan Mulder at number five minted 64 quick runs from 60 balls to push South Africa to 304-6 from 50 overs.

For New Zealand, Matt Henry picked up two wickets, both during the slog overs in the form of Breetzke and Senuran Muthusamy to claim figures of 2-59. Will O’Rourke also dismissed Mulder in the penultimate over to finish his spell at 2-72.

NZ vs SA Highlights: Kane Williamson, Conway Make Lightwork Of South Africa’s 304

Chasing 305, New Zealand lost opener Will Young for just 19 to Eathan Bosch (1-33) in the tenth over of the innings at 50-1. Young’s opening partner Devon Conway and senior man Kane Williamson at number three subsequently mounted 187 runs for the second wicket, with the former chipping in with 97 from 107 balls.

While Conway was denied his century by Junior Dala (1-47), Williamson notched up a 72-ball hundred and remained unbeaten at 133* from just 113 balls to record his 14th ODI century.

Senuran Muthusamy (2-50) sparked South Africa’s late fightback with the wickets of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham, but a fiery 28* from Glenn Phillips helped Williamson mowing down South Africa by six wickets in 48.4 overs.
