The Tri-Nation tournament started on a difficult note for the Pakistan team as they not only lost the contest, but their star pacer, Haris Rauf suffered an injury midway through the first innings of the New Zealand. The fast bowler could only bowl 6.2 overs as he felt some discomfort and possibly suffered from a side strain as he walked out of the field in pain.

The Pakistan side certainly felt his absence as the Men in Green leaked runs for fun in the last 10 overs and allowed Glenn Phillips to score a blistering hundred as New Zealand posted 330 in their allotted 50 overs. The other bowlers couldn't deliver the goods as the hosts lost the opening contest of the tri-nation series in a one-sided battle.

Just ahead of the Champions Trophy, Pakistan are sweating hard on his fitness, as they want the pacer to be fit before the mega tournment.

Will Haris Rauf play in the next Match?

As per reports, Rauf is feeling much better, however, the PCB is not willing to take any risk and the express bowler could be rested for the next match against the Proteas team.

The extend of the injury is still unknown, but reports state that if needed, Pakistan could also rest him for the entirety of the tournament before unleashing him in the Champions Trophy.

Pakistan suffer jolt in the first ODI

In reply to New Zealand's 330/6, Pakistan were never really in the contest as they lost wickets in a flurry. All the big names, including Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan failed. However, it was the comeback man, Fakhar Zaman, who gave a ray of hope to their side.

The aggressive batter smashed a quick-fire 84 off 69, but he was a one-man army as the Kiwis bundled out the home team for just 252, winning the game by 78 runs.
