Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant had an important piece of advice for skipper Shubman Gill when the duo was tackling the English bowlers on day 1 of the ongoing Test match at Headingley. The first day of the game witnessed India's dominance over the hosts, with Gill, Jaiswal and Pant slamming sensational knocks.

Pant Teaches Gill The Ways To Counter Shoaib Bashir

The incident occurred during the fag end of day 1 when Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant were batting in the middle in pursuit of a whopping first-innings score for India. As England spinner Shoaib Bashir bowled a full-length delivery, Gill charged down the track and drove the ball through the off-side.

It was a slightly uppish shot from Gill, and he could've got out had he miscued it. Pant observed his foot movement and instantly advised him to play the ball along the ground while dancing down the track against Bashir.

"Niche hi reh nikal raha hai toh. Ye aa jaata, uth gaya. (Keep it down if you're stepping out. That one rose a bit, could've been caught.)," Pant's instructions were caught on the stump mic.

Pant, Gill Headline India's Dominance On Day 1

After losing the toss and being put into bat first, India had a solid start to their innings, courtesy of a historic opening stand between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Rahul missed his fifty barely by eight runs, Jaiswal went on to slam a prolific century in his first outing on English soil.

Captain Shubman Gill and his deputy Rishabh Pant capitalised on the start, guiding India to a formidable total in their first innings. The duo will resume the proceedings, with India comfortably placed at 359 for three at stumps on day 1.
