Newlands Cape Town Pitch Report For SA vs IND 2nd Test

Much will be determined by the playing surface and overall conditions in the much-anticipated New Year's Test between South Africa and India at the scenic Newlands ground in Cape Town, starting Wednesday (January 3).

On a track which has historically proven to be among the hardest for Indians to compete and succeed at, the in-form Proteas will be backing themselves to continue their domination for the two-match series.

India have not won a Test match in Cape Town to date, with four defeats and two draws in their last six attempts to breach the great fortress nestled amidst the beautiful Table Mountains.

The Rohit Sharma-led side will have to showcase a decisively improved performance than the last Test, where they suffered an innings & 32-run defeat in Centurion, if they are to rewrite the history books in the coming game.

Newlands, Cape Town Pitch Report

The track in Cape Town is historically known for its balanced nature, which brings all kinds of skills into play and gives everyone a fair chance to succeed.

However, by the looks of the surface ahead of the Test match, it could be continuing the theme for the series, with pacers dominating the proceedings while enjoying consistent seam movement and disconcerting bounce.

There was a decent covering of grass on the Cape Town pitch on the eve of the New Year's Test, which makes it another track clearly designed to eliminate any possibilities of India's historic strength - spin - coming into play and for Proteas pacers to hunt from both ends.

Once the disconcerting bounce comes into the picture, there is only one favourite to exploit the conditions. The South Africans did so remarkably well in the first Test, using their height and taller release to great impact while the Indian bowlers watched the same with envy.

None of the Indian bowlers bar ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah could come close to matching the unplayable streak exhibited by his South African counterpart Kagiso Rabada and his talented understudy Nandre Burger.
