The third and final Test of the three-match series between Australia and Pakistan will be played at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground from Wednesday (January 3) as the hosts aim to secure a brilliant 3-0 whitewash while the visitors strive to restore pride.

Pakistan fans will be eyeing a stronger performance from the Shan Masood-led side after going down heavily in the first two Tests in Perth and Melbourne where Pat Cummins and company flexed their muscles past the Asian rivals.

A strong start to the year 2024 will be critical for both teams heading deeper into the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC), where, contrary to the series theme, Pakistan are giving Australia more of a fight for supremacy.

The Aussies are placed third in the points table while their Pakistani rivals are positioned fifth in the nine-team league's third edition spanning until the marquee finale at Lord's in June 2025.

While most of the interest is duly reserved for the on-field action, both teams will also have an eye on the overhead conditions and weather forecast for the New Year's Test at SCG.

The weather could play spoilsport in the game with rain forecasted for Day 2 on Thursday (January 4) and a mostly cloudy setting anticipated on all other days of the five-day fixture.

Temperatures will range from 25 to 30 degrees with humidity in excess of 60% predicted for the game. The forecast is also for the wind ranging between 19 km/h to 30 km/h during the Test match.
