When Shane Warne Showcased His Art For The First Time In Test Cricket

One of the most influential cricketers and an absolute legend of the game, Australia's late spinner Shane Warne made his Test debut today (January 2) in 1992.

Warne, who went on to become one of the greatest spinners of all time, ended his career with 708 Test wickets in 145 matches, which included 37 five and 10 ten-wicket hauls, between 1992 and 2007.

Warne's Test debut was not as exciting as his Test career, where against India at Sydney, the leg-spinner got hammered for runs all over the park.

India's former all-rounder and coach Ravi Shastri, in particular, took a liking to Warne and led from the front, slamming a memorable 206. However, Warne did have the final laugh, as the seven First-Class match old got the better of Shastri, claiming his wicket, which was the former's only scalp.

In the drawn Test, Warne finished with match figures of 45-7-150-1, which did not do justice to the spinner's real craft.

Warne played the third Test after spinner Peter Taylor's poor showing in the first two encounters resulted in a solitary wicket. Prior to the series, Warne had an impressive outing for Australia A against the visiting West Indies.

Coming into his debut Test, Warne has featured in seven First-Class for Victoria, having already played in Sheffield Shield.

The former legend played the fourth Test as well, and yet again failed to impress, going wicketless in 23 overs, where Australia claimed a 38-run win.
