Ace Bangladesh spinner Nayeem Hasan etched his name in history books as he dismantled Sri Lanka with a magnificent five-wicket haul in the ongoing Test match at Galle International Stadium. Nayeem's superb spell helped Bangladesh restrict the Lankans to 485 and take a narrow 10-run lead in the first innings.

Bangladesh's right-arm off-spinner Nayeem Hasan played a pivotal role in destroying the Lankan batting unit in the Galle Test. Hasan, who had got rid of Dinesh Chandimal earlier, went on to dismiss Kamindu Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Tharindu Rathnayake and Asitha Fernando, bringing up a memorable five-wicket haul. 

Thus, he registered the third-best bowling figures (5/121) by a Bangladesh cricketer in Tests on Lankan soil.

As mentioned above, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam holds the record for the best bowling figures by a Bangladesh cricketer in Sri Lanka. He is being followed by the legendary Mohammad Rafique, with Nayeem claiming the third spot after his heroics in the ongoing encounter. 

Interestingly, talismanic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan doesn't have a fifer on Sri Lanka's spin-friendly pitches, having 4 for 74 as his best individual bowling performance in the Island Nation.

In response to Bangladesh's first innings total of 495, Sri Lanka were comfortably placed at 470 for six before Nayeem wreaked havoc in their camp. He dismissed Rathnayake, Mendis and Fernando in quick succession, as Bangladesh bowled Sri Lanka out for 485, taking a crucial first-innings lead. 

As of writing, the visitors were seven for none in their second innings, with Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque batting on 6* and 1*, respectively.
