After 18 long years of heartbreak, near misses and gut-wrenching playoff exits, Virat Kohli finally stood at the summit of the IPL mountain. With fireworks cracking the Ahmedabad sky and emotions running wild, Kohli clutched the IPL trophy like it was the final piece of a puzzle he has been building since 2008.

Faf du Plessis Celebrates Virat Kohli’s Hard-Earned IPL Success

And watching it all from afar, his former captain and teammate at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Faf du Plessis has now opened up on the win.

Currently leading the Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (MLC), Faf took a moment at the MLC 2025 sidelines to open up about Kohli’s emotional moment.

Speaking to Sports Yaari, Faf said:

“Virat Kohli is an icon of the game. No one deserved the IPL trophy more than Virat Kohli. I'm very happy for him that he won the IPL Trophy.”

Those words carry weight. Faf and Kohli shared the RCB dressing room for three seasons from 2022 to 2024. Faf led the side in two playoff runs, but that elusive silverware remained just out of reach until now.

18 Years Of Loyalty And Heartbreak

Say what you want, but loyalty like Virat Kohli’s doesn’t come by every day. Through ups, downs, trolls and near-glory moments, he stayed true to the red and gold. The runs never stopped flowing: Orange Caps, centuries, records galore but that one shining trophy kept slipping through his fingers until this season.

When the final was done and dusted, when Punjab Kings were buried under RCB’s roar, Kohli broke down. And rightfully so. It was the culmination of nearly two decades of undying faith, hustle and unbreakable spirit.

Now that the trophy is home, Kohli’s career arc feels complete. He has done it all. For India. For RCB. For the fans. And maybe most importantly, for himself. The critics can now zip it because the "but he hasn’t won an IPL" line is officially dead and buried.
